Our vision here at Feelings and Friends is to create helpful, fun, and informative stories for children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities so they can develop important skills to emotionally regulate as they face whatever challenges may come their way throughout their life.
Feelings and Friends was created by Danyelle Lynch in 2026, but the idea to write children’s stories about emotional regulation tools came many years before.
Danyelle is a registered psychologist and mother of two young children. As a psychologist, Danyelle often teaches about emotional regulation, providing practical and accessible tools for people of all ages and all needs.
However, young children can often struggle to grasp these skills for a variety of reasons- they may forget about the skills quickly, not realize when the skills can come in handy, or they may have trouble paying attention when they are learning about emotional regulation skills.
So, Danyelle started thinking about how to best help children learn to regulate their emotions, and the first book to be published on Feelings and Friends, “Payton the Porcupine and the Big Feelings”, was created.
The Feelings Forward Fund
But, the story doesn’t end there- Danyelle’s vision is to give back to our community and help those who are most in need of both mental and physical support. Payton the Porcupine and the Big Feelings was written by Danyelle Lynch, owner and clinical director of One Tree Psychological, a women-led, family-owned practice that began in 2021 with a passion for helping families grow together. At One Tree, mental and emotional wellbeing take centre stage.
With today’s rising costs and pressures, getting support for mental health can feel out of reach for many families. That’s why a portion of the net proceeds from this book goes to the Feelings Forward Fund, which helps cover the cost of counselling at One Tree Psychological for children and families facing financial strain. Families can apply through a simple, confidential process, so support reaches the kids who need it most.
Every copy of this book helps families work through big feelings together.
